His counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on court had prompted observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was over.

However the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, supported by an better serving game.

The champion came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a third set.

He rescued four initial break points in a competitive third set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, he clinched victory with a shot at the net, with Moutet failing to control a volley after a lengthy match.
