Jujutsu Kaisen: The Execution Film Strives to Fix the Series' Biggest Issue

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution is not precisely an original film. Instead, the recent movie from the JuJutsu Kaisen action franchise is a compilation of the anime's second season merged with the initial episodes of its next season, which launches the Culling Games arc from the manga series. This makes Execution, which has been given a new trailer, the earliest way to view the beginning of the next season ahead of its 2026 January debut. The film debuts in Japan on Nov. 7, and in North American regions on December 5.

The Culling Games Arc

In the Culling Games plot, Elite sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu is introduced in the show and is charged by sorcery authorities to eliminate his fellow student Yuji Itadori. Their highly anticipated battle unfolds for the first time on the big screen, and if the animation team at the production house have an exceptional piece as the two-part Thunderclap episodes waiting in the wings for audiences this end-of-year period, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may prove to be the surprise that fans have anticipated.

The "Thunderclap" Controversy

"Thunderclap episodes" from season two is widely regarded as among the best moments in animated series lore, despite all the controversy in last year when the installments originally aired. It was claimed that the creators were enduring tight schedules to the degree, and the final version that premiered at the time was incomplete and reportedly not what the team originally planned.

The Legendary Fight

The episode showcases a heavily anticipated fight between two powerful sorcerers, the King of Curses and the Eight-Handled Sword. It features experimental animation, masterful camera work, and intense action. A subsequent Blu-ray release allowed the team to insert new moments to enhance the battle. So it appeared likely Execution could improve the battle even more. However, looking at the recent teaser, it's difficult to determine if that fight has received any additional treatment. It'd be a letdown if it didn't, because a scene of that magnitude has to be watched on the biggest screen with the finest quality available.

Season Two's Achievement

The second installment of JuJutsu Kaisen propelled the series to become the top anime of the year, and when the two-part finale were released back to back, it was the focus of attention for multiple weeks in the series' fanbase. Viewers knew about the issues behind the scenes, which made them appreciate what they viewed even more. People eagerly awaited to see if the home release, released on March 18, would include new footage to the fight or to see if it was refined somewhat, and were elated to see just that, alongside color corrections, smoother movement, and revised visual style.

The Film's Potential

But the home video can only refine what has initially broadcast in the original airing, whereas the cinematic experience has the opportunity to properly present the moment with more adjustments and freshly created footage.

A Magnum Opus

At present, these pair of installments act as the masterpiece of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be given special attention by the studio, especially considering the issues they underwent at the time. It's garnered the attention of series enthusiasts all over the planet, and the Culling Games is a much-expected plotline of the following year. If the production company wants to kick off the year perfectly, showcase the anime's greatest sequence once again in cinemas with the ultimate presentation we've experienced so far.
