The winter transfer window is always a period of feverish rumour and potential major transfers. Numerous notable players are being connected to moves away from their present clubs. We examine a selection of the key names who might be on the move in January.

A. Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' inability to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, this has kept the player available, it appears a significant transfer is close. Despite excelling and being named the best player award at the Under-21 European Championship last summer, this young player has found it tough for minutes on loan at Villa. Unai Emery has confirmed the loan move will not become permanent. Because of FIFA regulations about representing multiple teams in a campaign, a move back to Liverpool before next summer seems to be the only available outcome.

K. Yildiz

The exciting Turkish forward is in fine form for Juventus this season. With his existing deal running down, many English clubs – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the situation. The Turin club are desperate to tie down the youngster to a lengthy contract but are in a battle to retain one of the continent's most promising prospects.

Kees Smit

The highly-touted Netherlands teenage midfielder has drawn parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. Following starring at the Under-19 European Championship, he has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar side. The 19-year-old is heavily expected to make a major transfer this month. Newcastle United are believed to be leading the chase, but could face strong competition from Real Madrid for a deal valued at around twenty-two million pounds.
